With what they’re calling “the world’s first hi-powered action video light,” Knog are looking to take our action shots around the clock. Built from the company’s solid foundation in bicycle lighting, the [qudos] (say “kudos”) delivers 400 lumens of light from a three-LED array. The [qudos]‘ mount is designed to pair nicely with GoPro 2 and Hero3/3+ models but will also work with most cameras that can be adapted to a GoPro-style mount. A cold shoe/tripod adapter is also available for use with DSLR cameras.
“Creating great video isn’t a limited domain anymore. Like DSLRs have democratisedgreat photography, GoPro, Sony, Garmin and others have made action film-making available to everyone” says Knog’s founder and CEO Hugo Davidson. “But it’s still hardto get good footage in the dark. And that means some people’s talents never see thelight of day, so to speak. We want to highlight those people who do crazy, adventurous, interesting things at night. Hence the name – we want to give people the kudos they deserve.”
Opening up a whole new world of footage
Waterproof to 40m, the [qudos] should be able to survive the wettest, darkest winters. Three beam modes are available at two outputs each: wide-angle “Action Sports,” narrow-angle “Target Spot,” and ultra-wide “Ambient.”
Run times range from 40 minutes to 4 1/4 hours depending on spread and level. The battery is removable and spares will be available should longer run times be needed.
Using the provided mount, the [qudos] and a GoPro make for a tidy package. At 150g, it may add a noticeable amount of weight to helmets- but bringing night riding footage to non-riding friends should outweigh that fact and there are always chest/bar/other mounting options. Black and silver finishes are available to contrast or coordinate with your gear.
UK pricing, through Moore Large, has yet to be set; US MSRP is $120.
